Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is the use of cell phones or the Internet to make someone feel bad or unsafe. It can include sending mean or threatening emails, instant messages, or texts; spreading rumors online or through texts; purposely leaving people out of online groups to make them feel bad; impersonating people online to embarrass them; and creating insulting websites or profiles about other people. Unfortunately, there are dozens of different kinds of cyberbullying.

Even though online bullying doesn’t cause its victims direct physical harm, it can be incredibly damaging. People who are subjected to continual cyberbullying can suffer from lowered self-esteem, lack of confidence, and even headaches! That’s why many schools now have specific rules against cyberbullying, even if it takes place off of school property. More and more states are passing laws against online bullying, too. That means cyberbullies aren’t only risking suspension from school, but criminal charges as well!

Digital Etiquette

Digital etiquette, or netiquette, is a set of rules for how to behave online. Like the rules of etiquette that determine how we interact with other people in real life, netiquette emphasizes good manners, courtesy and respect in all the various forms of digital communications, from email and IMs to message boards and social networking websites.
